Dear Members,
It has been suggested there may be a niche market for an affordable mixed social hockey competition on a Saturday afternoon at Meadowbank in addition to our current Women & Girls competition. Cost would be approximately $1 000 per team for 16 weeks.
Rationale - Grass hockey has been a fixture at Meadowbank since 1957 and some of those 1973 schoolgirls are still playing but the numbers have dwindled since the advent of artificial turf. As you can see from the history NWSHA has the exclusive use of the facility Ryde Eastwood Womens Assoc fought so hard to pay for & build.
We hold booking priority only because we are an "historical' sport. If we lose hockey on our two fields we lose the facility, the sport & a supportive council. Our sport is shrinking - if you're an 'elite' player you need the base to support your endeavours & if you're a social player you need options. The largest sport & most vocal group are dog walkers in the Ryde Council area.
How You Can Help Us - We are looking to gauge the interest of clubs & individuals who may be interested in this format AND even more so we would love you to spread this 'event' to new people eg local school, friends, businesses. We also need to book additional fields by early January if needed. So time is of the essence.
- Please forward this link to friends & acquaintances asap.
- Register your email address on the 'event' so we can keep those interested in supporting the sport updated. We need you to spread the infomation (email filtering ceases on 17th Dec so we are mindful to target members who will support us by word of mouth or as a player).
- Send us your suggestions re format, day or times which may grow the sport at Meadowbank asap.
- Remember we still would love more women & girls' teams or individuals to join our existing competition - early next year.
Thank you in anticipation of your support.
